How it works

Three steps. The first one takes a minute.

1

Send a photo

Use the form or WhatsApp. A picture of the problem and your postcode is all we need to start. No need to describe it, the photo does the work.

2

Get a price

Most jobs we can price from the photo, usually the same day. If it needs a proper look we'll say so and arrange a visit. Free either way, no obligation.

3

Booked and done

You get a date and we turn up on it. Job done, tidied up, and you're told when it's finished.

Homeowner guides

Three things worth knowing before you call anyone.

Plain advice, no sales pitch. If it saves you a job, good.

Gutters

How often gutters need clearing

Twice a year is the safe rule: once in late autumn after the leaves are down, once in spring. If you've got trees overhanging, more often.

Signs you've left it too long: water pouring over the edge in rain, green streaks down the wall under the gutter, or a gutter that's started to sag between brackets. A blocked gutter is the cheapest problem on this page to fix and the most expensive one to ignore.

Roofs

What to check after a storm

From the ground, not the ladder. Look for tiles that have slipped out of line, a gap where a tile should be, or bits of tile and mortar on the ground and in the gutters.

Inside, check the loft with a torch for daylight or damp patches, and look at bedroom ceilings for new stains. A slipped tile caught early is a small job. The same tile left through a winter is a ceiling.

Fences

Panel or post: which one's actually gone

Push the fence at the top. If the whole run rocks, it's the posts, and that's usually rot at ground level where the timber meets the soil. If a single panel flaps and the posts stay put, it's just the panel.

Concrete posts with timber panels are the long-term answer in this part of the world. Timber posts set straight into the ground are what usually fails first.

About Taskmasters Local

Friendly, affordable, local. That's the whole idea.

Taskmasters Local Ltd is a property maintenance company based in Crawley, working across Horsham and West Sussex. It was founded by Sam, a tradesman with years on the tools who started in fencing and grew into roofing, guttering and chimney work because customers kept asking.

Most of our work comes from recommendations in local Facebook groups and on Nextdoor, from people whose neighbour we've already done a job for. That's how a local business is supposed to work: do the job right, get asked back, get passed on.

One honest caveat. Small plumbing and small electrical jobs, yes. Anything that needs a certificate or a specialist, we'll tell you straight and point you to someone who does it.

Questions people ask

Straight answers.

Are quotes really free?
Yes. Free and no obligation. Send a photo, get a price, and if you'd rather not go ahead that's fine.
How do you price a job from a photo?
Most maintenance jobs are things we've done many times, so a clear photo and a postcode tell us enough to give a proper price. If a job needs measuring or looking at up close, we'll say so and come round rather than guess.
Do you take on small jobs?
Big or small, we do it all. A sticking door, a tap that needs resealing or a single fence panel are all jobs we'll happily quote for.
Which areas do you cover?
We're based in Crawley and cover Horsham and the villages around and between. Further out across West Sussex, ask and we'll tell you straight whether it's one for us.
Who actually turns up?
The person who quotes your job is the person who does it. Sam, who founded the business, is on the tools, so there's no hand-off between the office and the van.
What don't you do?
Anything that needs a certificate or a specialist, like gas work or a full rewire. We do small plumbing and small electrical jobs, and if yours is bigger than that we'll point you to someone who does it.
